About Pawperwork
What does Pawperwork do?
It turns your route, travel date and pets into a step-by-step plan: which vet visits and documents you need, the last day for each one, and what to do on travel day and after you arrive. It also checks the details you enter for the timing and paperwork mistakes that get pets turned away at check-in or at the border.
What's free, and what does the Move Pass add?
Free, with no account: your full plan and timeline, every deadline, the readiness checks, email reminders, the crate size calculator and 5 messages to the crew.
The Move Pass (Trip Pass for a round trip) adds:
- Which airlines or other carriers will take each pet, with their limits and a Plan B
- The document check, which reads your certificates for mistakes
- Up to 60 crew messages a day about your own move or trip
- Your full plan as text, to share with your vet or family
The Expert review adds a person who has moved pets abroad 30+ times reading your plan and documents, with a written reply by email within 2 working days.
Is this official advice?
No. Pawperwork gives you general information to plan with. Official vets, government authorities and your airline decide whether your pet can travel, so always confirm with them before you book or travel.
Where do the rules come from, and how often are they checked?
From the agencies, airlines and rail operators that set them, such as USDA APHIS, the CDC, GOV.UK and the EU. We re-check them regularly and show the date of the last check. Where there's no official page, we use a reliable secondary source and mark the rule "Confirm" in your plan. Every source is listed on our sources page.
Who is behind Pawperwork?
Pawperwork is made by Paulino Cardoso in Aveiro, Portugal, who has moved countries with his pets 30+ times and built the tool he wished he'd had. You can write to us at hello@pawperwork.app.
Passes and payments
Is it a one-off payment or a subscription?
A one-off payment, never a subscription. A pass is for one move or trip and covers all your pets on it. The planned prices are €49 for a Move Pass or Trip Pass, and €99 for a pass with an Expert review for up to 2 pets, plus €25 for each extra pet.
While Pawperwork is in testing, payments aren't live: paid features are free to try and nothing is charged.
What if my plans or dates change?
Change your date or details in your plan at any time, and every deadline and reminder moves with it. Your pass stays with that move or trip. If you have an account, the change is saved there too.
What's your refund policy?
We refund your pass if:
- it didn't unlock, or your Expert review never arrived
- something in your plan was wrong because of our mistake, compared with the official rules on the date of your plan
To ask for a refund, email hello@pawperwork.app and tell us what happened. We reply within 2 working days. This doesn't affect your legal rights as a consumer. While Pawperwork is in testing, nothing is charged.
Using it
Which countries and routes are covered?
Moves and round trips between and within the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland, by plane, car, train or ferry. Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico have their own strict rules and aren't planned yet.
Does it work for cats, big dogs or several pets?
Yes. Pawperwork plans for dogs and cats of any size. Add each pet to the same plan, and one pass covers them all. Your plan flags what changes the options, such as weight, snub-nosed breeds and breeds that some countries or airlines restrict. More than 5 pets counts as a commercial move under the rules, and your plan will tell you.
Do I still need a vet?
Yes. Only a vet can microchip and vaccinate your pet, and an official vet has to sign the health certificate on routes that need one. Your plan tells you which vet visits you need and the dates they have to fall between, so you can book the right appointment.
Do I need an account, and is my data safe?
You don't need an account for the free plan: it's saved in your own browser, not on our servers. Accounts are only for people who unlock a pass, so your plan is safe on any device, and you sign in with an emailed link or code, with no password. Documents you check aren't stored, we don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking cookies, and you can delete your account at any time. See the privacy policy.
Travelling with a pet
How early should I start planning?
As soon as you know your travel date. Three to four months ahead is comfortable for most routes: the microchip has to go in before the rabies vaccine, a first rabies vaccine needs 21 days before travel, and pet places on flights sell out. Some steps can only happen close to the date, like a health certificate in the last 10 days, and your plan shows exactly when.
How much does it cost to travel with a pet?
It depends on your route and the size of your pet. The main costs are vet visits (microchip, vaccines and, on some routes, a health certificate), official fees such as the USDA endorsement when leaving the US, a travel crate if your pet flies in the hold, and the airline's pet fee or cargo charge, which is usually the biggest cost for large dogs. Ask your vet and airline for their prices before you book.
Can my pet fly in the cabin, or does it go in the hold?
It depends on the airline and your pet's weight with its carrier. Most European airlines take small pets in the cabin up to about 8 kg including the carrier, bigger pets go in the hold or as cargo, and some airlines take no pets at all. Snub-nosed breeds are often refused in the hold. Your plan shows the rules for your route, and the Move Pass shows which airlines will take each of your pets.
